Join us for a unique and immersive photography workshop as we embark on a journey to document the final days of Tanglin Halt, an iconic landmark that holds significant cultural and historical value. Led by Mathias Heng, a renowned photojournalist known for his evocative storytelling through visuals, this workshop will provide you with invaluable insights and hands-on experience in capturing the essence of a disappearing community.

Topics covered include:
  • Explore the art of visual storytelling and its relevance in documenting significant social changes.
  • Discover various techniques and approaches to capture the emotions, narratives, and unique moments of Tanglin Halt's final days.
  • Engage in guided photography excursions to Tanglin Halt Market, capturing the vibrant scenes, diverse food culture, and everyday life of the residents.
  • Receive personalised guidance from Mathias Heng to enhance your skills in composition, lighting, and capturing authentic moments.

To ensure a conducive learning environment, the workshop is limited to 6 pax per session, and a range of Leica cameras will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Who should attend:

This workshop is open to anyone who would like to hone their photography skills, and ideally have a basic understanding of composition and exposure triangle. 

For those who would like to learn more about the exposure triangle, you are encouraged to attend the Fundamentals Workshop prior to signing up for this workshop.

Mathias Heng (@mathiasheng)

Mathias Heng is an international photojournalist who spends much of his time on assignments and conducting photography workshops.

Much of his work is emotionally charged; focusing on the documentary narrative of conflicts, natural disaster, poverty, social issues and its effects on the civilian population. He captures the turning points of human history and always approaches his subjects with respect and dignity.

His work appears internationally in a range of publications for both NGOs and editorial organisations throughout Asia and Europe. He is also a sought after workshop instructor and speaker who inspires his participants through his works and actions.

Despite his exposure to many atrocities, Mathias has never lost his passion and commitment to humanity; he continues to capture images which speak to people around the globe.
