STREET SCENES

14 Aug 2026 - 18 Nov 2026 | Phil Penman

Street Scenes invites you to experience the city differently to slow down, look closer and notice the moments that disappear almost as soon as they unfold.

Through Phil Penman’s lens, rain, fog, shadow and movement shape the emotional landscape. A solitary figure, a passing glance, a street suspended between chaos and silence each photograph reveals something familiar yet somehow transformed.

Across cities around the world, Penman finds poetry in contradiction: beauty in decay, stillness within motion and connection within anonymity.

These are more than photographs of places. They are fragments of feeling, fleeting, cinematic and deeply human.

What will you notice when the city slows down?

Painted Echoes. A Stage of Fading Light.

18 Aug 2026 - 25 Nov 2026 | Bernard Teo

For an eleven-year-old boy playing along the corridors of Race Course Road, the sharp clash of cymbals and the soaring melodies of Teochew opera were the soundtrack to childhood. Years later, as a young photographer stepping out from his first studio on that very same street, those familiar sounds still echoed deep within his work.

In this collection, captured on Pulau Ubin during the Vesak Day celebrations, photographer Bernard Teo brings that lifelong connection across the water. Painted Echoes – A Stage of Fading Light pulls back the curtain on traditional Chinese street opera (wayang) in one of Singapore’s last remaining kampongs.

Moving beyond the grand gestures of the main stage, these photographs capture the quiet, unseen soul of the art form: the deliberate ritual of applying face paint under warm tungsten light, stolen moments of stillness backstage, and the sacred spaces where island heritage and personal memory collide.

What began on a five-foot way on Race Course Road comes full circle in this exhibition—a deeply personal homage to a timeless tradition holding its ground on a changing island, and the enduring power of nostalgia.
