The City of Tokyo Awakens in Layers with Leica Q3 Monochrom
Allen Tan (@bam_visuals) documents his visual diaries with the Leica Q3 Monochrom

Tokyo never truly slept, it revealed itself in layers.
I began my days in the quieter corners of the city, where narrow streets still held the memory of another era. As the city stirred awake, I watched people move through moments suspended between motion and stillness. Tokyo did not announce itself all at once; it unfolded as strangers briefly shared space without ever meeting.

With the Leica Q3 Monochrom, I was not chasing colour or spectacle. I was listening to the city in light and shadow. Black and white stripped away distraction and left only what mattered — form, contrast, emotion. These were not dramatic moments, but they were honest ones. And honesty, to me, was what gave a photograph its weight.
Rain transformed Tokyo into something quieter, more reflective. Neon became texture. Faces became stories. The rhythm of footsteps slowed just enough for the camera to breathe. In those moments, the Q3 Monochrom felt less like a tool and more like an extension of how I saw — precise, deliberate, and deeply aware of tone and space. Every shadow felt intentional. Every highlight felt earned.
What stayed with me most were the people. Not as subjects, but as quiet storytellers. Couples stood side by side without speaking, workers paused beneath concrete beams, and travelers waited at crossings with suitcases at their feet. No one performed for the camera. Yet there was discipline, loneliness, patience, and resolve — emotions carried subtly in posture and in eyes fixed forward on the next destination. These moments were small, but together they formed the pulse of the city.

"As a photographer I use all sorts of cameras to take photos, but when i use a leica it captures memories"
