Leica invites you to explore the vibrant heartlands of Singapore during the captivating celebration of Sun Wu Kong’s birthday—a beloved figure in Chinese folklore. Known as the Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong symbolizes rebellion, wisdom, and resilience, famously brought to life in the classic novel Journey to the West. This photowalk offers a unique opportunity to experience and capture the rich cultural heritage and lively festivities that honor this legendary character.
The celebration begins with the energetic lion and dragon dance, symbolising good fortune and strength. Performers in elaborate costumes, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums, cymbals, and gongs, bring these mythical creatures to life. The silk and bamboo dragon winds through the streets in a mesmerising display, providing endless moments to photograph.
Along the parade route, participants will witness moments of deep reverence as attendees make offerings of incense, fruit, and flowers at temporary altars. These traditional rituals allow locals and visitors alike to seek blessings from Sun Wu Kong for protection and prosperity, creating heartfelt and authentic scenes to capture through your lens.
