Leica Camera shares a passion for and a love of creative photography of the highest standards with many people around the world – that’s why making such works and their creators accessible to people with this passion has always been important to Leica. For decades now, and for this precise reason, Leica has offered both prominent Leica photographers and emerging new talents an opportunity to present their work to a wider audience. The Leica galleries were conceived as the ideal forum for this purpose.

Expedition Makgadikgadi

17.01.22 - 09.02.22 | Alwyn Chong | Leica Store Marina Bay Sands

Expedition Makgadikgadi 2017 is the second part of a trilogy that Roger and myself are doing on Botswana. Expedition Okavango 2016 being the first instalment. Our goal was to document the three distinct habitats of Botswana, into a series of three photobooks, to help people understand and experience the history and complexity of the place through visuals.

Once one of Africa’s largest inland lakes, Lake Makgadikgadi dried up around 10,000 years ago, leaving behind a geographically unparalleled collection of salt pans. And one of 4 viable breeding sites for flamingos in Africa.

About Alwyn Chong

Alwyn Chong is a born and bred Singaporean multi-hyphenated photographer with a penchance for travel photography. His love for Africa brought him across Botswana where the photographs he took provided documentation of his experience not only of the landscape, wildlife and local communities but also the bonds forged with the people on the trip. Travel photography has enabled him to capture the world around him candidly, without constraints, and to express his emotions and share his view of the world as a simple witness.
